CEU HANDS OVER BOREHOLES TO SCHOOLS

CATHOLIC EDUCATION UNIT, NAVRONGO/BOLGATANGA DIOCESE HANDS OVER TWO HAND PUMB BOREHOLES TO SCHOOLS.

The Catholic Education Unit in separate ceremonies on Friday July 5, 2019 commissioned and handed over two hand pump boreholes to St. Clément’s cluster of schools and St. Francis Basic School both in the Bolgatanga Municipality of the Upper East Region.

BACKGROUND:

The two beneficiary schools with a pupil/student population of about one thousand two hundred (1,200) were hitherto without water. This situation adversely affected the teaching and learning and school administration as well. It also had health implications on the children as far as basic hygiene is concerned. The children had to make choices between learning with dry throats and sacrificing their lessons in search for water; drinking the little water they had and eating with dirty hands or eating with clean hands but staying thirsty after meals. As a result, the heads and local managers of the schools made appeals to the unit’s office and thanks to the benevolence of Mama Noelle the boreholes were drilled within two weeks.
